"The Ecstasy of St. Teresa in the Cave of Santo Domingo de Guzmán" figures prominently in the Museum of Segovia

On the occasion of the V Centenary of the birth of St. Teresa of Jesus, Segovia Museum has placed prominently, for the months of March and April, Table "The Ecstasy of Saint Teresa in the Cave of Santo Domingo de Guzmán ", an anonymous S. XVII, within the activity "unknown piece of the Museum".

The theme shows the Ecstasy of St. Teresa in the Cave that, according to his biographers, visited the 30 September 1574 a place of worship to be considered the place where St. Dominic was mortified during your stay in Segovia 1218.

The scene shows, first, and kneeling before the altar, Santa Teresa with outstretched arms and staring. To her left, Santo Domingo is standing; to the right of the holy, the appearance of Christ; and closing the composition that side, kneeling, Carmelite friars who accompanied the saint in his visit to the Cave. In the top half of the draw, and the background of the scene, appears an altarpiece of one body and five blocks, in the center of which can clearly recognize the Crucified table attributed to Pedro Berruguete and found in 1965 in an attic of the convent of Santa Cruz, in Segovia.

The chosen painting was at the Convent of Santa Cruz "The Real" Segovia and an exhibition on Berruguete moved to City Museum, for which was a labor of cleaning and restoration work and has since remained in the Museum as a repository of the Province of Segovia.
