The consideration of the Jubilee Year because of the Birth of Saint Teresa de Jesús will attract a big number of pilgrims and visitors searching the spiritual graces that are conceded. Encounters have been designed during 2015, and a special program has been configured to make easy the access to the Teresian places, the routes and ways that unite them, as well as actions that work as cultural appeal to all the people that participates in this special year.

PATH OF LIGHT (from 15 October 2014 to the end of April 2015).

Saint Teresa de Jesús has been popularly known, not without reason, as “the restless nun”. During all her life, she walked through all of Spain founding convents inside of the Order of the Discalced Carmel, created by herself. The idea of life as a path, as a pilgrimage, even as a “mission", is therefore intimately related to her life and character. Therefore, this entrepreneurial spirit, creative and of search of the faith and the truth, has been extended all over the world. In the five continents, vocations have appeared, and that keeps alive the flame set fire by Saint Teresa and that keeps infecting each year to more citizens of the world.

The activity is an homage to this aspect so particular of the life of Saint Teresa, and at the same time, it is a way to start in a symbolic way the centenary itself. A way to unite persons from different races and cultures, because everything who wants to live this experience is invited to participate, answering that way to the universal spirit of the event.

The goal is to make a pilgrimage that starts in Avila the 15 October 2014 (festivity of the Saint) and go all over the world visiting the Teresian places in the five continents (Europe, Asia, America, Africa and Oceania), including active missions, until getting to Avila the 28 de marzo de 2015, date and place of her birth and, thus, the day of the V Centenary of the Birth of Saint Teresa, starting in an official way the year of celebrations. From that day, the pilgrimage will start the path through Spain, for a month. In total, Path of Light will go through 30 countries. The team of Path of Light will bring the original cane of the Saint in their trip.

Along all the way, there will be a blog narrating the adventure, dressed with pictures and videos.

Organized by the Episcopal Conference, the Diocese of Avila and the Order of the Discalced Carmel, it aspires to bring to Avila, in August 2015, thousands of young people of all Europe because of the V Centenary of the Birth of Saint Teresa. The structure of this encounter will give place to reflection, prayer, encounter with the youth, the dialogue around diverse issues, inspired in Saint Teresa, and also, ludic activities and artistic demonstrations of different type: plastic arts, dramatic arts, concerts...

In the writings and Teresian symbols we find a wealth than can be express in a combination of initiatives:

– The visit to the Teresian places will be one of the fundamental moments of this encounter, that offers the young people the opportunity to meet with Teresa de Jesús in these places marked by her print.

– The Teresian image of the Path evocates an internal itinerary that could be proposed in different ways: pilgrimage to Alba de Tormes, approach to other spiritual sources related with Teresa, as Saint Juan de la Cruz in Segovia.
